You Are the Lord’s Ambassador

2 Corinthians 5:20&21: Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Ambassador: 1 an official envoy; especially : a diplomatic agent of the highest rank accredited to a foreign government or sovereign as the resident representative of his or her own government or sovereign or appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment; and, 2 a : an authorized representative or messenger b : an unofficial representative.

When I think of an ambassador, I think of one in a country foreign to them representing the authority of their home country. Looking at the definitions above, I find that I wasn’t far off on the meaning of the word, “ambassador”.  We must remember that the Bible calls us His representatives. What does that mean? It means we say what He says, do what He says to do and go where He says to go. Also, we act and speak on His authority not our own. It more hits home that we were bought with a price and are no longer our own! In this world with so many things that beg for our attention and devotion, it’s easy to allow oneself to be distracted from the primary directive of our Lord, make disciples of all nations.

Notice in the first definition of the ambassador, that the assignment is temporary? Which means we all have an alloted time in which to multiply the Lord’s kingdom and that that time cannot be wasted! The Lord even says that it’s appointed once for a man to die and then judgement. Our time here is short in the grand scheme of things. You may wonder where you can be Christ’s ambassador and the answer is where you work (see my previous post Working in the Corporate Jungle), shop, workout, school, volunteer, get entertained (that can bring you conviction if you’re in a place that would cause the one you speak about the Lord to to question your devotion to Him), travel, social network, etc. We are His ambassadors! That even means that when we go to a polling place to cast a vote, we need to have sought HIS will and direction on whom we’re to vote and not rely on tradition, popularity and words that scratch our itching ears. You don’t want to learn the hard way like I did how much He doesn’t like our not seeking His will in this! My fanny still stings from that chastening several years ago.

How do you make disciples? First, you need to know what the Bible says about how a person becomes saved. I’m not going to list the verses for you but rather encourage you to search for and study them. Even if you know them from experience, a refresher course won’t hurt you. 😉 Second, you need to realize that the Lord won’t always have you lead one to salvation as a part of making another a disciple. Paul summarized it best when he said that he planted the seed, Apollos watered it and God brought the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6). We are to seek the Father for direction on which He would have us do for those in whose paths He places us. It can be as much as sharing your testimony and leading another to salvation in Christ Jesus or as simple as encouraging (literally put courage into, no fluffiness involved) a new or seasoned brother or sister in Christ. Lastly, it’s making sure that we know what the One Whom we represent expects of us and being fully submissive to the leading of His Spirit no matter what “foreign” country it leads us to. Love, Christ’s ambassador, Veronica
